I haven't been assigned to a particular area for trap-building or anything else. We could start in my room then move them wherever they're needed, but my roommates probably won't appreciate the mess.

Seals. Tags. Explosive tags, to be precise. The right markings and infusion of chakra can make a simple piece of paper very dangerous.
[Certain types of paper are preferable, but they could make do with what they had. He'd never made an explosive tag from lined paper before. it might be a new experience.]
[She had the sudden realisation that only a few weeks ago, she would have laughed all this off as nonsense and gone with something far more high tech. Now? It doesn't get too much more than a confused stare and a quirk of the head.]
I'm afraid I don't understand what seals or tags are, but I'll take your word for it. I... didn't bring paper, though. [Pause as she thinks about it.] Actually, I've only seen paper a couple of times in my life.
[It might be that a world as technologically advanced as the one she comes from doesn't need paper anymore, but it's still a strange thing to think about. Paper is still used by everyone in his world. It's a necessity. Hell, one of the members of Akatsuki used paper as the base for most of her techniques.]
[Sasuke has to pause at that, because the truth is he hasn't seen much paper for writing on at all. Paper bags, paper wrapped around cans and other food items, but not for writing on. Though truthfully he hadn't been looking very hard for them.]

But that doesn't mean they don't exist.

[In this regard, Tali is utterly useless - it's not something she's even considered being on the ship up to now. All she can do is cant her head thoughtfully and ask the immediate question:]
Is there anything you could use as a substitute? There's got to be something else you can mark... Or do you definitely need paper?
I haven't tried it on anything but paper. That doesn't mean it won't necessarily work on something else, though.
[After all, a summoning technique could work on any surface. It's a whole different sort of jutsu than this, but that doesn't mean some of the same ideas can't apply.]
We'll work under the assumption that I can't use them right now and try different methods.
Sure. But it'd be interesting to see if it could work on something else at some point. Maybe even something electronic - a datapad, or a holographic interface...

Anyway. Actually, I was wondering if we want to kill whatever it is right away or if we definitely need to capture it alive. That'd make a difference to the kind of trap we put together.

I would aim to kill it. You can still study a dead body.

Yeah. I wasn't going to suggest we only stick with one type anyway. We'll have to vary it up depending on the location.
[If they had the time, equipment, and permission, they might be able to set up some nice traps in the air ducts - assuming they were being used.]
I would suggest poisons, but that's not good in confined spaces like this ship has. It would have to be more controlled than we might be able to manage.
I don't think I'd trust using poisons on a ship - I don't know anything about poisons, though, so it's mostly that I'd have no idea what I'm doing...

Other than that, since we don't even know what size we're dealing with... tripwire's a good idea, that's easy enough and it works in confined spaces. A snare would work on something smaller, too.
